Kamloops sex offender gave fake name before assaulting another woman

CONTENT ADVISORY A Kamloops judge found a sex offender lied about his name before assaulting another woman two years ago. Sebastian William Bradshaw, 30, was convicted of sexual assault on July 8 after he didn't get a woman's consent to not use a condom. He told the Indian international student victim a series of lies before and during their May 2022 date before they ended the evening in her Kamloops basement suite. During his trial, Bradshaw told the court he gave her a fake name because he didn't want her to know he was already a registered sex offender, concerned any chance at a relationship would be eliminated had she known. "I find this explanation to be revealing. What I take from it is that it was important to Mr. Bradshaw to deceive the complainant about his true identity in order to get what he wanted from her, and he was prepared to practice this deception from the very beginning," Justice Brad Smith said. He said he cannot conceive and that he did not want any children when in fact he already had two children with another woman. He also neglected to tell the victim he was not only dating another woman but he was living with her. On the day of their June 2022 date, Bradshaw and the victim went on a hike together, but parted ways before he went to her house later that evening. He returned home, had dinner with his girlfriend then went to the victim's home. The two shared a glass of wine in her bedroom, but it quickly escalated as they began to remove each other's clothes. The court heard that the victim then asked Bradshaw if he had a condom, which is where their testimony parts ways. "No, is that OK?" Bradshaw responded, according to his testimony. He told the court she affirmed that it was. In her version it's less clear that he had asked for consent, while she told the court she never said it was OK. Smith said Bradshaw was "very embarrassed" that he had ejaculated within 30 seconds and left the home promptly. It was Bradshaw's willful deceit of the victim and his hyperbolic assessment of the date that led Smith find little credibility in Bradshaw, while he agreed with the victim's account of the sexual assault. He was convicted on one count of sexual assault and will be held in custody as he awaits his sentencing. Bradshaw's prior conviction was in 2016 and involved the sexual touching of a minor. He's still awaiting another charge of sexual assault with a weapon, which allegedly took place in the North Okanagan last year. The victim in this May 2022 incident, who cannot be named due to a publication ban, is not the first to claim he has used a fake name to hide his conviction from women. A frequent strategy he used was to pose himself as law enforcement or a security guard to impress girls, they said. They still referred to him as "Dean" when speaking with iNFOnews.ca. Police also knew of Bradshaw's use of an alias when they investigated him for allegedly impersonating a police officer in 2021.
