Full Beaver Moon could appear orange in skies over Kamloops, Okanagan
Sky watchers in Kamloops and throughout the Okanagan have a fair chance of viewing November’s Full Beaver Moon late this weekend and early into next week if the clouds cooperate. The moon will appear full from Sunday night, Nov. 26 reaching peak illumination in the morning of Monday, Nov. 27 at 1:16 a.m. According to the Farmer’s Almanac https://www.almanac.com/full-moon-november , the Beaver moon is named for the time of year when beavers start sheltering in lodges, and it was also the time when beavers were trapped for their pelts during the North American fur trade. Native names given to the November moon are Digging Moon in reference to animals foraging for food and digging dens, Deer Rutting Moon for deer seeking mates, and Whitefish Moon in reference to the time of year whitefish are spawning. The moon will look its biggest when it appears on the eastern horizon during dusk, and according to Forbes.com https://www.forbes.com/sites/jamiecartereurope/2023/11/21/when-to-see-the-beaver-moon-rise-next-week-from-where-you-are/?sh=6ef6d7f2602e , will look orange for roughly 15 to 20 minutes while it’s viewed through the densest part of the Earth’s atmosphere.
