'Get out and enjoy it,' Peachland firefighters say after re-opening outdoor skating rink

The skating rink in Peachland is open again thanks to favourable weather and the Peachland Fire Department.

The local firefighters announced the opening earlier this week. Prior to then the rink was closed while it was at the mercy of Mother Nature. But while nobody was using it crews were able to get the ice in good shape by flooding the surface several times each day.

Firefighters are reminding the public that the ice is flooded daily at 9 p.m. so plan accordingly. It may be closed periodically depending on weather, and hockey players are asked to bring shovels and keep the ice clear.

“Get out and enjoy it, as we never know how long it will last before it melts away,” reads the fire department’s Facebook post.

The community’s public outdoor rink used to be at Turner Park until 2019 when it moved further up Princeton Avenue to the Peachland Riding Club.
