The moon is waxing in skies over Kamloops and the Okanagan and will be a full Snow Moon by the end of the week.
The February Snow Moon reaches peak illumination at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, appearing full the nights before and after.
The moon gets its name because of the heavy snowfall that typically happens in February and according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac

also has many First Nations' names that have a connection to animals such as the Black Bear Moon that refers to the time when cubs are born.
This year February’s moon is also called a micromoon as it will be at its farthest point from the Earth and therefore will appear a bit smaller and less bright.
The best time to view the moon is on Friday night when overnight skies in Kamloops and the Okanagan are predicted to be clear, while the following two nights are predicted to be cloud with a chance of precipitation.
