iN TRAFFIC: Good day to travel Southern Interior highways

Today should be a decent day to travel on most Southern Interior highways with only a chance of flurries on most routes through the afternoon and into the evening.

The Okanagan Connector may be a bit trickier with fog patches through until about noon. Snow is expected to fall tonight with 2-4 cm accumulating with gusty winds.

Watch for compact snow and slippery sections on all the highways.

Snow is expected to start falling on the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt beginning around midnight with 2-4 cm and gusty winds expected.

From Merritt to Kamloops only flurries are expected through the night.

Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton should see some fog patches with a mix of sun and cloud today. Light snow is expected to start falling after midnight.

Highway 1 from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass is expected to have a few flurries early this morning with periods of snow tonight. About 5 cm are expected overnight.

The picture is a bit different in the valley bottoms with periods of light snow expected to start in Kamloops near noon. A high of -8 Celsius and winds up to 15 km/h will bring a wind chill factor of -16 C.

Periods of snow are expected in Kamloops tonight with accumulations of 2-4 cm.

For Kelowna, the snow isn’t expected to start until tonight with accumulations of about 5 cm. A high today of -6 C and winds of 15 km/h will bring wind chills of -12 C this afternoon.

A special weather statement has been issued for the Fraser Valley from Chilliwack to Hope starting Tuesday morning with snow accumulations of up to 10 cm producing slippery conditions.

It’s chilly on most of the ski hills with Sun Peaks ranging from -13 C to -17. There has been no new snow in the past 24 hours. The alpine base is 74 cm.

Silver Star temperatures this morning range from -12 C to -18 C. There is has been no new snow in the past 24 hours with an alpine base of 109 cm.

Big White was warmer, at -4 C early this morning. There has been no new snow in the past 24 hours and the alpine base is 101 cm.

Apex Ski Resort is now open and recorded a temperature of -13 C this morning with no new snow and an alpine base of 122 cm.
