iN VIDEO: Dynamic flock of starlings livens up grey sky in Kamloops
Starlings burst into a grey, overcast sky in Kamloops filling the air with the sounds of flapping wings as they grouped together and moved in intricate formations and disperse in this video taken over the weekend. Hundreds of birds can gather in flocks to perform the murmurations, looking like clouds that swirl, twist and pulse. The birds are able to move in synchronization because they don’t have a single leader, so when one starling changes directions or speed, the others in the flock and respond nearly simultaneously, according to All About Birds. https://www.allaboutbirds.org/news/how-do-starling-flocks-create-those-mesmerizing-murmurations/# Information moves across a flock very quickly regardless of flock size and the formations are a defensive response to the presence of a bird of prey like a hawk or an eagle. The video was captured in Kamloops' Dallas neighbourhood by local resident BT Giles.
