Man arrested with firearm outside Kamloops home

A man surrendered his gun to Kamloops RCMP after he was reported to be carrying it near a Heffley Creek home.

Multiple officers headed to the home on the 500 block of Tod Mountain Road yesterday, Dec. 12, around 2:10 p.m., placing a nearby school on hold and secure while they negotiated with the suspect, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

Officers confirmed he was carrying a firearm "shortly after" their response, but he was convinced to surrender it to officers without incident, RCMP said. Police didn't say how long they were in the area.

A Kamloops man was taken to cells and released by RCMP with a court date for firearm offences.

“We thank the parents, students, staff and community for their patience and cooperation during the police presence in the area," Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.
