The election results are in and this evening, Jan. 23, Splatsin’s new Chief and Council will be sworn in.
The election for Kukpi7 and Tkwamipla7 (Chief and Council) held on Jan. 22, 2024, saw Michael Christian elected as Kukpi7 (Chief) and Vikki Tronson, Phyllis Jezewsky, Crystal Morris, Miranda Kimbasket, and Edna Felix give the position of Tkwamipla7 (Council).
Christian served as Splatsin Kukpi7 before. From 1999 to 2001 he assumed the role of Chief and delivered initiatives for Splatsin and the Secwepemc Nation.
“In a remarkable display of collective vision and commitment to a brighter future, the Splatsin community has spoken, and today, I am humbled and honoured to announce that they have entrusted me with the responsibility of serving as their Kukpi7,” Christian said in a press release. “Transparency and honesty will be the bedrock of our administration, fostering an environment where communication flows freely, and trust is paramount.”
Christian aims to bring unity, prosperity, experienced leadership, and transparency to the Splatsin community.
“I am deeply thankful for the support of the Splatsin community, and I am committed to working tirelessly on their behalf. Let us move forward together, united in purpose, towards a brighter tomorrow.”
The swearing-in of the new Chief and Council will take place today at 5:00 p.m. at the Splatsin Community Centre and the new council will assume power immediately after.
