Penticton and area schools targeted in cyberattack

Penticton's school district is experiencing a district-wide network outage after having been targeted by a cyberattack. Phones and email within the Okanagan Skaha school district are down, according to a media release from the district issued today, Feb. 14. Despite the network outage, schools remain in operation. The district is unable to provide a timeline at the moment for when the systems should be back online. "The district is receiving support from the Ministry of Education and Child Care staff, Safer Schools Together, the local authorities and an expert cybersecurity incident service provider to get the support needed," the release read. The release doesn't say if any school district data has been comprised in the cyberattack nor does it say if a ransom demand has been made. District officials were not immediately available to comment.
