Penticton invites skiers and snowboarders to Throwdown Rail Jam
Penticton is inviting expert skiers and snowboarders to compete in the new Downtown Throwdown Rail Jam. As a part of the Frost Fest Winter Carnival on Jan. 20, the city is setting up Gyro Park for riders to show off their best tricks on a custom built rail structure, according to a City of Penticton media release. In addition to the ski and snowboard contest at 5 p.m. the Frost Fest will have hockey games, a DJ, sledding and kids' activities.  “Penticton will be the place to be with everyone from BCHL hockey players and NHL alumni to pro skiers and boarders showing off their skills at Gyro Park,” Jeff Plant with city said in the release. “We’ll also have a full day of free activities for children in the park, brought to you by the organizers of Ha Ha Ha Kidzfest, so the Frost Fest Winter Carnival is definitely going to be an event you won’t want to miss.” READ MORE: Are rising prices making Okanagan skiing unaffordable? https://infotel.ca/newsitem/are-rising-prices-making-okanagan-skiing-unaffordable/it100970 The custom rail obstacle is 17 feet high and 100 feet long. Competitors can win up to $6,000 in cash and prizes across multiple categories. The event is free to watch and spectators can see all the action from the sidelines or the beverage garden.
