Powder returns to Thompson-Okanagan ski resorts

With the blink of an eye, snow has returned to the Thompson-Okanagan region and so too has its characteristic champagne powder skiing up in the mountains. Big White Ski Resort https://www.bigwhite.com/ received 17 centimetres of snow last night, Feb. 6, transforming the mountain from an ice rink to its usual powdery slopes. Resort vice president Michael J. Ballingall told iNFOnews.ca the difference is night and day. “There's snow up to your knees,” he said. “It's unbelievable. This is what people dream about when they're dreaming of booking a ski holiday.” After a week of undesirable warm temperatures, freezing rain and just straight up rain showers, this sudden dump of fresh snow comes as a very welcome surprise. “We just roll with the punches and some days are better than other days,” Ballingall said. And it’s not just Big White that has had to roll with a few punches. Last week, SilverStar Mountain Resort https://www.skisilverstar.com/  near Vernon barely received any snow and was facing threats of rain. However, the mountain has had 12 cm of snow in just the past day and can expect even more in the coming week. On Jan 31, Apex Mountain Resort https://apexresort.com/ near Penticton received no snow over 48 hours. The mountain has had 14 cm of snow as of 8 a.m. today. "It was incredible to welcome winter back to Apex," read an Apex Facebook page post. Sun Peaks Resort https://www.sunpeaksresort.com/ near Kamloops has received the least amount of snow but still gained 7 cm overnight.
