Rockslide threat prompts local state of emergency at Penticton mobile home park

The City of Penticton has declared a local State of Emergency due to the potential threat of unstable rock.

Yesterday, Nov. 22, 24 homes in a Penticton mobile home park were evacuated due to the threat of a rockslide. Late yesterday, the city corrected that number to 25 and residents remain on evacuation order today. The impacted properties are in the northwest corner of the Pleasant Valley Mobile Home Park on Penticton Avenue.

“A preliminary review by a geotechnical engineer has now been completed and based on that information we have issued an evacuation order for 25 homes,” Kristen Dixon, Emergency Operations Centre director, said in a press release.

Dixon said the city will "share more details on next steps on dealing with the hazard and any continued impact on residents.”

Emergency Support Services have been activated at Fire Hall 2 at 285 Dawson Ave. and is currently providing support to evacuees.

The Emergency Operations Centre reopened at 8 a.m, today.
