Spider-Man spotted swinging high in the air around Kamloops hospital

A superhero was seen high up in the air on the outside of Royal Inland Hospital recently, to the delight of onlookers both inside and outside of the building.

Spider-Man appeared swinging from ropes while he washed windows a few weeks ago and will be making a second appearance at the hospital soon, alongside his archenemy and supervillain, the Green Goblin.

“We’re going to make more costumes and have a mid-air duel,” said the man behind the mask, Kamloops resident Justin Kamata.

Kamata is the owner at Kamloops Rope Access, a company that services commercial and residential buildings requiring rope access. He started the company over three years ago and in the past year, it’s picked up. It’s the first year Kamata got the contract to clean the windows of Royal Inland Hospital.

“The hospital is amazing, we always wanted it (the contract) and we always wanted to dress up for the kids and hospital staff to do something uplifting for the community,” he said. “Everyone loved it, the nurses were going wild and the kids across the street at the Catholic school were watching.”

Interior Health posted photos while he swung outside the hospital’s pediatric area and posted a thank you on social media.

Kamata and his team will be expanding the costumes and fun when they clean the hospital windows again next spring.

"We just like to have fun while we're working and if it lifts spirits, why not?"

Kamata is a trained Rope Access Technician with a background in construction, mining, and fighting supervillains.

He said he's never had a fear of heights but "sometimes it's stressful when you're way up high watching your coworker dangling from a rope."
