Toxic drug supply found in Penticton

A drug alert has been issued for Penticton after a drug found in the city contained a high amount of fentanyl that could lead to overdose and death.

Interior Health issued the alert, June 10, after a drug being sold a down was found to contain a high level of fentanyl and fentanyl-like substances.

The substance is being described as a beige chunk and has with no fillers or other substances detected in the sample, according to the alert.

There is a high risk of overdose and death when taking this substance, according to Interior Health.

The alert is in effect until June 17.

Interior Health is urging users to check their drugs first, use at an overdose prevention site, to start with a small amount and space out doses and carry a naloxone kit.
