A fruit and vegetable stand across the street from the Kelowna BC SPCA was destroyed by a fire today.
Kelowna Fire Department received a call about a structure fire at around 12:13 p.m. today, July 8.
The building was consumed by fire by the time crews arrived, but the fire was under control within an hour.
Platoon captain Micah Volk said the two-storey wood building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, but it was totally destroyed.
“It was involved fairly heavily when we arrived. Our concern was fire spreading to the neighbouring areas so we had trucks checking that too, especially with the weather. The building is a complete loss but we did stop it from spreading to the bush or surrounding homes,” he said.
Firefighters are still working to put the blaze out entirely so investigators can figure out what caused the fire.
The Kelowna Fire Department had five engines, three water tenders, and a command vehicle at the scene.
