Vernon North Okanagan RCMP seizes grenades, guns with arrest
The Vernon North Okanagan arrested an individual after finding and seizing body armour, grenades, and a loaded firearm from a property in Spallumcheen on Wednesday. On the morning of Mar. 6, officers from the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP executed a search warrant at a property in Spallumcheen on Back Enderby Road, according to a news release. The warrant was executed in relation to a firearms investigation from the end of 2023 and led to the location of multiple sets of body armour, a loaded shotgun, more than 100 firearms and what are believed to be live fragmentation grenades. The residence was immediately vacated and secured. The RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit was consulted as well as experts from the Canadian Forces who attended the scene on the following day and deemed the items safe. "These items represent a significant risk to the safety of our community," Staff Sergeant Steve Mancini, Vernon North Okanagan RCMP's Rural Unit Commander, said in the release. "It was through the diligent and strategic investigational work of our officers that were able to remove them from circulation and prevent them from potentially being used in criminal activities." A 38-year-old man from Spallumcheen was arrested and appeared in court yesterday. He remains in custody and will appear in court today.
