Vernon senior dies in crash with semi

An 82-year-old Vernon woman was killed yesterday after her SUV collided with a semi truck.

According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release, the 82-year-old driving a Toyota Rav 4 entered the intersection eastbound on 53 Avenue and was struck by a semi, which was travelling north on 27 Street.

The collision took place at roughly 2:30 p.m., Dec. 13.

The 82-year-old was the lone driver of the Toyota and was transported to hospital, but later died.

"On behalf of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, I want to express our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased," Vernon RCMP spokesperson Const. Chris Terleski said in the release.

Police say a number of witnesses stayed at the scene but are still asking drivers who may have been in the area at the time to review their dash cams.
