Fireworks, Canada Day celebrations returning to Kelowna

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, planning has commenced for Canada Day celebrations across the Okanagan and Kamloops.

Preparations for the award-winning annual “Celebrate Canada Day-Kelowna” community festival are again underway at Festivals Kelowna, according to the organizer's press release. Kelowna's Canada Day celebrations welcome tens of thousands of locals to the city's downtown each year.

There will be much to see and do this year on July 1, from live music to kids activities, crafts to dog shows, food to shopping. An important element of this annual celebration are the artisans, food trucks, home-based businesses, community groups, and non-profit organizations who all take part, according to Festivals Kelowna.

Festivals Kelowna is currently accepting applications for participants to set up in the vending and activity areas.

“There are opportunities open for local artists, small or home-based businesses, and community groups to promote and sell their products or services to a huge number of people in one day for a low cost. These different groups and vendors really enhance the festival and give our patrons another cool activity to explore,” said Renata Mills, executive director, in the press release.

Interested participants can download applications through the Festivals Kelowna website by following the link to the “Celebrate Canada Day-Kelowna” page.

Additional information about criteria for eligible products is also available by contacting Festivals Kelowna at 250-868-3326 or 250- 868-3307. Businesses exploring exhibitor or sponsorship opportunities should contact Mills directly at 250-868-3326.

Kamloops and Penticton are also in the planning stages to see the return of their Canada Day celebrations.

Kamloops is working with the Kamloops Arts Council and Kamloops Multicultural Society to bring the community together for a celebration at Riverside Park. Canada Day celebrations are also going ahead at Gyro Park in Penticton.

The North Okanagan Canada Day Society in Vernon has yet to make an official announcement of what Canada Day will look like in the North Okanagan this year.
