Penticton's Main Street is being painted blue and yellow this afternoon as a show of support for the people of Ukraine.
Roughly 30 people gathered in Penticton March 5 as part of a rally to support Ukraine at the intersection Warren Avenue and Main Street at noon. Organizers Sherry Mitchell and Jaimie Miller-Haywood held their first pro-Ukraine rally at the same place last Saturday.
One resident doesn't have any personal connection to Ukraine but wanted to show support for the country.
"Watching it on TV, you cry. I'd rather come here and do something because they're people just like we are and you know what, it's going to continue happening and it's going to get worse and worse," said Keremeos resident Eleanor Van Luven "I'll do whatever I can."
Most drivers passing the demonstration made some show of support but one man in a pickup truck prolonged his wait at a red light to curse at the protest.
Rallies have been held across the Thompson Okanagan and globally since Russia invaded the country last week, causing more than one million people to flee.
