Kamloops man facing charges for break-in at fire hall

A Kamloops man is in custody facing several charges after breaking into the Kamloops Fire Rescue station and stealing a variety of items.

Police arrived at the fire haul on the 500-block of Dallas Drive in response to the overnight break and enter yesterday, Jan. 12 at around 10:45 a.m., according to a media release by Kamloops RCMP.

Several radios and chargers, a forward-looking infrared camera and firefighting gear had been stolen.

“As part of the investigation, police identified and arrested a suspect shortly after at a nearby residence,” said Const. Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson in the release. “The stolen property was recovered and returned to the fire department.”

The same suspect had also been identified in Kamloops uttering threats, investigation reported around 1:15 a.m. the same day.

While in custody for the break-in, he was also arrested and charged for that alleged offence, RCMP said.

Shane Lee McLeod, 21, of Kamloops is charged with break and enter and theft, theft over $5,000, and possession of stolen property in relation to the fire hall investigation. He is also charged with one count of uttering threats from earlier that day.

He remains in custody awaiting a court appearance scheduled for later today.
