iN TRAFFIC: Be careful driving through slippery sections today

Drivers can expect slippery roads on the Interior highways today.

DriveB.C. is reporting Highway 1 has slippery sections from Jackass Mountain Summit to Spences Bridge; Highway 3 has slippery sections between Princeton to Hedley, and from Keremeos to Grand Forks; Highway 5A has slippery sections between Princeton and where it interests with Highway 97; all of Highway 12 has slippery sections; and Highway 97C has slippery sections throughout.

Charles Andrews commutes from Armstrong to Sicamous via Highway 97A, and reports the roads are mostly bare albeit wet.

He saw a mouse or rat cross the road near Mara.

“So watch for wildlife,” he said.

In weather, it's going to be an overcast day, according to Environment Canada. Temperatures in Kamloops will go from -7 Celsius to -5 C today, and back to -7 C tonight. In Vernon and Kelowna, both cities will start the day off at -4 and drop to -8 C by tonight. Penticton will go from -4 C to -2 C and back to -4 C tonight.

At the ski hills, Big White Mountain Resort is reporting no new snow but 15 centimetres over the past week and a snowpack of 99 cm. There has been 27 cm at Sun Peaks Ski Resort over the past week; SilverStar Mountain Resort last got 6 cm on Dec. 10; and Apex Mountain Resort is reporting 4 cm of snow in the past 48 hours and 8 cm over the past week.
