iN VIDEO: West Kelowna man narrowly avoids head-on collision with semi

A West Kelowna man narrowly avoided a head-on collision Thursday night when a semi truck crossed the centre lines.

Stan Jong was driving home from Port Coquitlam where he works with Canadian Pacific Railway, Dec. 9, using Highway 5A when a semi travelling in the opposite direction drove into his lane and nearly hit his vehicle.

“I was just kind of shocked… I absorbed it more when I got home and replayed the footage over and over again,” he said. The incident occurred at 9:30 p.m.

Jong said both himself and another semi in front of him had to swerve out of the way to avoid getting hit.

“I wasn’t speeding,” he said.

It was his first time using that route to get home.

“It’s just crazy. There’s so many semis (on that road),” he said.

Jong decided to post the video online to remind drivers to be alert.

“If I wasn’t being as focused, I could’ve gotten hit if I didn’t react as I did.”
