A Kelowna developer is proposing two new housing projects with a total of 335 rental units. Troika Management Corp. is proposing a senior focused apartment project with 175 units on Valley Road and a six-storey, 160-unit rental building near Orchard Park Mall, according to a Troika press release. Both proposals will go to Kelowna city council Monday, Oct. 21. The six-storey senior oriented building project is a partnership between the developer and Sussex Retirement Living and is planned for the site next to an existing long-term care home at 728 Valley Road. The developer has dubbed the senior community The Vineyards and the idea is to put housing near essential amenities like transit and health care. Former Kelowna-Mission MLA, and Troika’s CEO Renee Merrifield, said this kind of project is what the city needs. “We’re incredibly proud of the Valley Road project and its potential to enrich the senior housing landscape in Kelowna,” Merrifield said in the release. “This development not only provides essential housing but fosters a vibrant community for our senior residents. As we head into the city council review, we’re eager to continue working with the city and community stakeholders to make this vision a reality.” The plan is to put fitness centres, game rooms, a library, wine bar, outdoor spaces in the building along with services like a 24/7 concierge and shuttle bus.
