Overnight lows could drop below freezing this weekend in Kamloops, Okanagan

The last of this week’s warm April weather is forecast for today, April 7, with rather chilly temperatures expected on the weekend.

The high temperature forecast for Kamloops today is 18 Celsius but that will drop to 14 tomorrow with highs of 8 C to 9 C on the weekend.

It’s a bit cooler in the Okanagan with a forecast high today of 16 with highs on the weekend reaching only 6 C on Saturday before warming up all the way to 8 C on Sunday.

Normal highs for this time of the year are 16 C in Kamloops and 14 C in the Okanagan. Normal lows are above freezing at 1 C to 2 C

Overnight lows are expected to dip below freezing Sunday and Monday mornings, according to Environment Canada’s online forecast. It's forecast to reach -3 C in the Okanagan on Sunday morning. Kamloops is looking at -2 C that morning.

Most of the days will have a mix of sun and cloud but, in Kamloops, there is a 40% chance of showers overnight tonight and a 70% chance ate tomorrow afternoon.

The Okanagan’s rainfall isn’t expected to fall until Friday morning, with a 30% chance of showers in the morning followed by early afternoon winds gusting to 40 km/h. There’s a 60% chance of showers Saturday.

No rain is forecast for Sunday throughout the region as temperatures start to climb next week.

After heavy snowfall earlier this week on the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt, rain and possible periods of wet snow are in the forecast for tonight and into Friday. Snow levels are expected to lower to 1,000 metres Friday morning with accumulations of two to four centimetres.

Showers can be expected from Merritt to Kamloops with the freezing level lowering to 1,200 m so there could be some snow flurries.

Snow is not in the forecast for most of the Okanagan Connector but there may be flurries near the Pennask Summit on Friday.
