Police seek suspect in assault of young woman at Kamloops bus stop

A young woman was assaulted at a Kamloops bus stop earlier this month, and police are asking for the public's help to identify the suspect.

While she was waiting for a bus on 6 Avenue, March 5, the youth was allegedly assaulted, then the unknown man sat near her after getting onboard the bus, according to an RCMP news release.

There are few details about the nature of the assault, but police say it "may have appeared as a hug."

Images taken from surveillance footage on the bus show a suspect, who exited onto Tranquille Road near Leigh Road.

“Please take a close look at the image,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn said in the release. “If you are the suspect or recognize him, please contact police. It’s important we identify and speak with the person pictured in the footage to help further our investigation.”

The assault was reported to police around 3 p.m., March 5, and the young woman was at the bus stop around 2:30 p.m. that day.

The suspect is described as a 40-year-old man with grey, balding hair, and scarred and broken knuckles. He was wearing a short sleeve button-up shirt.
