RCMP hunting for suspect after several shots fired at Vernon home

Vernon RCMP are investigating a shooting in a residential building and a car fire in Vernon.

Police received multiple reports of gunfire in the 4000 block of 34 Street in Vernon at around 5:50 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, according to an RCMP Media release.

When officers arrived they uncovered evidence of the shooting and determined several rounds had been discharged into the occupied residential building.

The gun was fired into a unit inside the building, RCMP said. Although the residents were home no one was harmed.

A white 2008-2012 Ford Escape was seen fleeing the area at high speed.

At around 6:20 a.m., a similar vehicle was reported to be on fire on Buchanan Road in Coldstream. The vehicle was completely destroyed.

Investigators believe the incidents are related and are working to confirm that.

“At this point in time, all indications from the ongoing investigation suggest this was a targeted incident,” Vernon RCMP spokesperson Const. Chris Terleski said in the release. “These types of reckless acts of violence jeopardize the safety of our entire community and it’s incredibly fortunate that no one was injured.”

Anyone who witnessed the vehicle fleeing the scene or who may have information about this incident is asked to contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171 and quote police file 2023-16532.
