The two men shot in West Kelowna yesterday were both victims, according to RCMP, but only one of them was found at the scene of the shooting.
Initial reports from police said two men were shot in a hotel parking lot in the 4000 Block of Pritchard Drive at about 5:30 p.m. yesterday, Dec. 20. That’s the location of the Barone Beach Lakefront Resort.
When police arrived they found a 32-year-old man with apparent gunshot wounds and he was transported to hospital. At about the same time, a 34-year-old man with apparent gunshot wounds arrived at Kelowna General Hospital.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Tammy Lobb told iNFOnews.ca today, Dec. 21, that both men were victims and both were involved in the same incident.
“At this point there’s nothing to indicate that it was random,” she said. “At this time it’s too early in the investigation to say (if it’s related to gang violence). However, these are all possible motives that can’t be ruled out as the investigation continues.”
Both men are from the Okanagan and both are expected to survive, Lobb said.
A suspect vehicle has been identified and a description is expected to be issued later today, she said.
Kelowna General Hospital was locked down because of the incident but Interior Health did not say for how long.
“A lockdown is a precautionary measure, meaning that RCMP provides additional security at the Emergency Department,” Interior Health said in a news release. “There was no direct threat to KGH, and patients were welcome and safe to come to the Emergency Department to receive emergency care.”
