RCMP take down Canada’s biggest drug ‘superlab’ in North Okanagan
BC RCMP dismantled the largest and most sophisticated drug superlab in the country in the North Okanagan. RCMP executed multiple search warrants across Metro Vancouver, Surrey, and a massive drug lab in Falkland on Oct. 25, according to a press release from police issued Oct. 31 Police seized fentanyl precursors that could have made more than 95,500,000 potentially lethal doses of fentanyl. The lab takedown was part of an investigation into a transnational organized crime group that police believe has been producing and distributing fentanyl and methamphetamine around Canada and exporting it internationally. “As part of our crackdown on the large-scale production, distribution, and international export of illicit drugs, our dedicated RCMP Federal Policing investigators have successfully neutralized what is believed to be the largest illicit fentanyl, and methamphetamine facility ever discovered by law enforcement in Canada,” Insp. Jillian Wellard said in the release. The lab in Falkland was capable of producing numerous types of drugs. In addition to the precursor chemicals, officers seized 54 kilograms of fentanyl, 390 kg of methamphetamine, 35 kg of cocaine, 15 kg of MDMA, and 6 kg of cannabis. Along with the drugs the RCMP seized a total of 89 guns, including 45 handguns, 21 AR-15 style rifles, and submachine guns that were loaded and ready. Of the guns seized, nine were stolen. Police also found small explosives, a large amount of ammunition, gun silencers, high-capacity magazines, body armour and $500,000 in cash. As part of the investigation police found out about large shipments of methamphetamine destined for international export. Police partnered with the Canadian Border Services Agency to seize another 310 kg of methamphetamine before it could leave the country. Gaganpreet Randhawa is the main suspect. Randhawa has been arrested and is in custody on numerous drug and firearms related offences. “This is undoubtedly a major blow to the transnational organized crime groups involved, and a great step towards ensuring the safety of Canadians, and the international community,” Insp. Wellard said. The investigation is ongoing, and police have connected the superlab in Falkland to a property near Enderby where officers seized 30 tonnes of precursor chemicals https://infotel.ca/newsitem/30000-kg-of-chemicals-used-to-make-meth-seized-in-north-okanagan/it106706 .
