Second bone found near Kamloops airport isn't human: RCMP

One of two bones found along a trail near the Kamloops airport yesterday is not a human one as originally reported by police.

Police said yesterday a second human bone had been discovered, April 9, in the same location as one found back in March.

An examination by a B.C. Coroners Service identification specialist has revealed the second bone is from an animal, possibly a juvenile deer, according to an RCMP media release issued today, April 26.

“The new information confirms that the initial bone located on March 26, remains the only human bone located so far,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn in the release.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding how the bone ended up there is ongoing and will be done in consultation with the coroners service. It is not related to the body discovered in the South Thompson River yesterday, April 25.

Since March 26, the area has been searched by the Police Dog Services Unit, Search and Rescue, and most recently, the RCMP Human Remains Detection (cadaver) dogs. Air Services and the police boat were also utilized to expand the search and cover the shoreline.
