Security guard in hospital with 'life-threatening' injuries after alleged assault at UBC Okanagan

A security guard is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries following an alleged assault this morning at UBC Okanagan.

Police officers initially responded to a report of an assault at one of the buildings on campus, Feb. 26, at roughly 5:55 a.m., according to an RCMP news release.

"It has been determined a man working at the university assaulted a security guard. The man has been apprehended under the Mental Health Act and the victim has been transported to Kelowna General Hospital with life-threatening injuries," according to the RCMP.

Police are currently at the university conducting an investigation and said, in the press release, there is no risk to public safety.

The Kelowna RCMP is asking for anyone who witnessed the incident or has information on it to contact the detachment at 250-762-3300, or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by leaving a tip online
