Smoke is starting to fill the skies in the eastern half of British Columbia, including Kamloops, Kelowna, Penticton and Vernon as 325 fires continue to burn around the province.
A smoky skies bulletin has been issued today, July 22, advising families and individuals in the affected areas to take cautionary measures.
The smoke is expected to impact the province for the next 24 to 48 hours although conditions should improve within the next 24 hours.
“During a wildfire, smoke conditions can change quickly over short distances and can vary considerably hour-by-hour,” the bulletin said. “Wildfire smoke is a natural part of our environment but it is important to be mindful that exposure to smoke may affect your health.”
The next smoky skies update will be issues Tuesday, July 23.
After a great start to fire season with plenty of June rains, much of the province has been under a punishing heat wave, perfect for fire conditions, most of which have come from lightning so far this year.
