Unseasonably warm weather is going to continue early into the weekend in Kamloops and the Okanagan.
But the Environment Canada online forecast shows a sharp drop in temperatures Sunday morning followed by snow and cold well into next week.
Temperatures are expected to reach daytime highs of 4 Celsius in Kamloops today, Jan. 5 and Saturday but drop to -5 C Sunday morning. There's also a fog advisory this morning for the North Thompson.
By Thursday, the daytime high is forecast to only reach -11 C in Kamloops.
Normally the high for Kamloops on Jan. 5 is -1.4 C with overnight lows of -7.9.
There is a 30% chance of showers or flurries today and tomorrow with snow predicted for Monday and Tuesday, although the forecast doesn’t indicate how much could fall.
With daytime highs below freezing, any snow that does fall next week is likely to stick around for a bit.
Kelowna and Penticton are also expected to reach highs of 4 C for the next two days before gradually dropping to a high of -7 C on Thursday.
Vernon is forecast to reach 3 C through Saturday.
There is a 30-40% chance of showers or flurries in the Okanagan through Saturday with snow also forecast for early next week.
There could be five to 10 cm of snow on the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt today.
Snowfall of 2-4 cm is forecast to fall on the Hope Princeton Highway and on Highway 1 from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass.
There’s a chance of flurries along the Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Kamloops and on the Okanagan Connector.
There is a snowfall warning with 15-20 cm expected on Highway 3 from the Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.
