UPDATE: Standoff with police in Kelowna ends with arrest of suspect

A Kelowna man is in custody after a standoff with RCMP responding to a weapons complaint.

Police were called to a home in the 600 block of Lequime Road in the Lower Mission neighbourhood at around 11:35 a.m. today, March 9, following a weapons complaint, according to an RCMP media release.

The heavily-armed emergency response team and a crisis negotiator were called to the scene of what RCMP originally called an “unfolding incident.

A Kelowna man was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for assessment.

Earlier today, police had asked both the public and media to avoid posting photos of officers at the scene. Drivers were also asked to avoid the area.
