Weapons complaint puts two Kamloops schools on alert

Kamloops RCMP put two schools on "hold and secure" as they responded to a weapons complaint Friday afternoon.

Police responded to the Valleyview area around noon on May 6, and recommended the school district put nearby schools on alert.

Police officers, with the help of the police dog service, found a suspect and arrested the person, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

Kamloops RCMP did not provide details on the type of weapon, the nature of the complaint nor whether the suspect was carrying a weapon once they were arrested.

According to the news release, there was no direct threat to the schools.

School District 73 did not publicly announce the hold and secure notices, but the Valleyview Secondary School website notifies visitors that a hold and secure began at 12 p.m. It was lifted at 12:15 p.m.
