Fire crews working wildfire in North Shuswap

The B.C. Wildfire Service and three North Shuswap fire departments responded to a three-hectare blaze discovered yesterday near St. Ives.

The Scotch Creek, Anglemont and Celista Fire Departments were assisted by B.C. Wildfire crew and a helicopter yesterday as they worked to extinguish a blaze in the Horseshoe Bay area near St. Ives, according to the Columbia Shuswap Regional District in a press release issued yesterday, April 28.

The fire, near Shuswap Lake Marine Provincial Park, is believed to be human caused and the wildfire service is currently listing it at three hectares in size. The blaze was burning upslope in a heavily forested area and wasn't moving toward any structures, the regional district said. There is one home in the vicinity of the fire but was not threatened.

Cool overnight temperatures and higher moisture levels were expected dampen the blaze overnight.

The regional district said to check the Shuswap Emergency Program website and its social media platforms for updated information.

Residents in the vicinity are encouraged to subscribe to Alertable, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District’s emergency notification system in case of any alerts or emergency information. Sign up through the regional district's website here.
