Kamloops resident Cameron Whitcomb has advanced into the top 20 on American Idol.

The energized singer, known for his backflips on stage, advanced with his rendition of Black Sabbath’s Changes, last night, April 17, on the 20th anniversary season of the singing competition show.

This performance was different than his others, as Whitcomb adopted a calmer stage presence.

“When you started off I said, 'oh my God, he is going to sing the song serious all the way through',” judge Lionel Richie said. “It only lasted one verse, but the seriousness was noted. Now take a chance and try a second verse standing still and then go crazy. Enjoy your career my friend, you’re on your way.”

The next show airs tonight, April 18 on CityTV and ABC where more contestants will be cut from the competition.
