The Kamloops RCMP needs the help of children to name some adorable new foals.

Until April 22, the RCMP Musical Ride is inviting kids across Canada and classrooms to participate in its Name the Foal Contest, a competition to help find names for up to 12 new foals recently welcomed by the RCMP breeding farm in Pakenham, Ontario.

"This is a great opportunity for youth to be directly engaged in naming a horse that will very likely become an important part of the Musical Ride’s legacy and be a part of the RCMP family for many decades," said Sgt. Major Scott Williamson, riding master, in the press release.

For the 2022 contest, names submitted must start with the letter V. Entries can be made by individuals under age 14, or by a teacher on behalf of a classroom.

The name selected by the youth can mean anything to them personally or may have a larger meaning that reflects Canada. Names are typically chosen for there uniqueness or special meaning, according to the RCMP.

Those submitting on behalf of a class must be at least 18 years old and teach children 14 years of age or younger.

Winning names will be chosen by the RCMP Musical Ride and Heritage Branch. Up to 12 winners, including one classroom entry, will be selected from across Canada.
