Kelowna man charged with threatening local TV reporter

A Kelowna man, who's racist tirade against a security guard last summer went viral, has been charged with uttering threats against a Global Okanagan reporter.

Bruce Orydzuk was charged March 3 with one count of uttering threats to cause bodily harm to Global Okanagan reporter Darrian Matassa-Fung, according to court documents.

The incident allegedly occurred Aug. 26, 2021. Matassa-Fung decline to comment for this story.

Orydzuk was condemned internationally last summer when a video taken by iNFOnews showed him telling a Sikh security guard that he was “disgusting” and to go back to his country.

Kelowna RCMP said it would investigate the incident outside of a COVID-19 Kelowna vaccination clinic as a potential hate crime but no charges have been laid yet.

Orydzuk is scheduled to appear in Kelowna court on the uttering threats charge, April 14.
