Second time unlucky for Kamloops shoplifter

A woman was nabbed twice in two days with stolen goods and is now sitting in jail awaiting a bail hearing rather than walking the streets looking to steal again.

At 11:45 a.m. yesterday, March 8, a Kamloops RCMP officer was checking out a stolen vehicle report in the 900 block of Columbia Street.

A grocery store employee notified the officer that a woman had walked out with merchandise she hadn’t paid for.

“As police officers located the woman across the street, the employee informed them that a man she had been with was now attempting to leave the store with a buggy of unpaid items,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn, said in a news release. “An officer was waiting for the man as he exited the store and quickly took him into custody.”

Custody, however, did not last long as the merchandise was returned to the store and the couple were released with a court date.

At about 2:40 p.m. today, the same woman and a different man were arrested for theft as they left a retail store on Hillside Drive with hundreds of dollars of goods they didn't pay for.

They are both now in custody waiting for a bail hearing.

Anyone with information on either of these investigations is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference files 2022-7339 or 2022-7488.
