TRU faculty to rally in support of those impacted by Russian invasion of Ukraine

The Thompson Rivers University Faculty Association is holding a rally at the campus tomorrow to support people affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The faculty association is calling for its members — along with students, administration and staff at TRU, and the public — to join tomorrow afternoon.

"(TRU Faculty Association) condemns the Russian attacks on the people of Ukraine and President Putin’s cynical lies to justify Russia’s assault on Ukrainian sovereignty," an association statement reads.

"We stand with all the people of Ukraine, Russia, and globally who oppose this senseless war. (TRU Faculty Association) stands in solidarity with our Ukrainian colleagues and expresses its sincere concern for the well-being of all people whose lives are impacted by Russian state terror and violence."

The rally will be held tomorrow, March 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., where attendees will gather outside the TRU campus activity centre.

The conflict has raged in Ukraine since last month, when Russia invaded the country. The violence has swept through several cities, and Russia is facing resistance from Ukrainian people and crippling economic sanctions from the international community.

The faculty association is encouraging the public to join in tomorrow's rally as it aims to show support for the international students from Ukraine, Russia and neighbouring communities.
