Senior pedestrian hit by pickup in Vernon dies from injuries

A 74-year-old pedestrian that was hit by a pickup truck in downtown Vernon last month has died as a result of her injuries.

The incident happened Dec. 4, 2021, at roughly 4:20 p.m. in the 3300-block of 30 Avenue, and police are now appealing for additional witnesses who may have witnessed the incident.

According to a Jan. 7 Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release, police would specifically like to speak to the person that posted about witnessing the incident on social media.

Police say the driver stayed on the scene following the accident and the 74-year-old woman was taken to hospital.

"Over the course of the investigation, police have interviewed several witnesses from the scene but it has come to our attention there may be an additional witness who has not yet spoken to police," Vernon RCMP Const. Chris Terleski said in a media release.

"Shortly after the incident, a person posted very specific information to social media about the activities of the driver in the moments immediately preceding the collision. We are asking the person who made the post to please contact police so we can speak to you directly."

Anyone that witnessed the collision, and has not yet spoken with police, is asked to please contact Const. Sebastian Lipsett of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171.
