Suspect arrested in Kamloops home invasion, possible abduction

There was a large police presence on the North Shore in Kamloops yesterday as officers responded to a report of a home invasion and possible abduction.

Officers confronted three people, one of them armed with a handgun, around 7:10 a.m. yesterday, April 4, in the 2000 block of Glenview Avenue, according to an RCMP media release.

The trio reportedly forcibly confined a resident, stole items, then took off in the person’s car, as well as a black sedan.

More information provided to police indicated one of the suspects, a woman, may have been taken against her will.

“Police attended and contained the area as they investigated,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn said in the release. “More information was gathered, leading officers to Valleyview where they located the black sedan.”

Around 8:50 a.m., police found the suspect vehicle at a gas station on the East Trans-Canada Highway Frontage Road, and following further investigation, a man was arrested for offences related to firearms, assault and forcible confinement.

A subsequent search revealed a loaded handgun, two paintball guns and bear spray, all seized by police, as well as the black vehicle, RCMP said. Officers located the potential abduction victim/suspect and confirmed her well-being, while one suspect got away.

The man who was arrested was later released with a court date and conditions.

Anyone who witnessed or has information related to this investigation is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-10813.
