A COVID-friendly way of trick-or-treating in Penticton was so popular it’s continuing after the pandemic.

The Penticton Trick or Treat Cycle-Path is giving children the chance to collect treats from their bicycles, while they make 17 fun stops throughout the Penticton Safety Village.

Many local businesses are involved, one station is manned by the Penticton Vees, and the final stop is a petting zoo.

The idea was spawned as a way to enjoy trick-or-treating while practicing social distancing during the pandemic, but it proved to be successful enough to keep going.

Kiwanis director and organizer Katie Weitz, who launched the event in 2021, said families can expect it to keep getting better.

“I’m valley born and raised, so I remember growing up with big Halloween events,” Weitz said. “My target it to really open this up.”

The Kiwanis Park in Penticton, which is right beside the Safety Village, can possibly be utilized for future events, she said.

The Trick or Treat Cycle-Path starts at noon tomorrow, Oct. 30. Registration is full but families can add their name to the waitlist by messaging the event via Facebook.
