UPDATE: Penticton power outage affects 5,000 customers as temperatures plummet
There's currently a power outage in Penticton affecting thousands of residents. The City of Penticton issued an alert this morning, Jan. 11, saying 5,000 of its customers have been impacted after a "problem at the Westminster substation." Crews have been dispatched to restore service and the city expects the power to be back on by 1 p.m. People without electricity can go to the Penticton Library, Penticton Seniors' Drop-in Centre or the Cherry Lane shopping mall to warm up. The city also asks residents to check on their neighbours without power to see how they're doing. The electrical utility department said its phones a “ringing off the hook.” The city said an update will provided later today.
