UPDATE: Standoff with police called to weapons complaint in Kelowna ends

No arrests were made following a standoff with RCMP responding to a weapons complaint Wednesday.

Police were called to a home in the 600 block of Lequime Road in the Lower Mission neighbourhood at around 11:35 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, following a weapons complaint, according to an RCMP media release.

The heavily-armed emergency response team and a crisis negotiator were called to the scene of what RCMP originally called an “unfolding incident."

RCMP had said a Kelowna man was apprehended under the Mental Health Act, but later in the day said he was not taken into custody but instead was evaluated by police and a Crisis Team mental health nurse.

The investigation into the incident continues, RCMP said.

Earlier that day, police had asked both the public and media to avoid posting photos of officers at the scene. Drivers were also asked to avoid the area.
