Kamloops' Sephora could be on strike for Boxing Day

Workers at Kamloops’ Sephora will be holding a vote next week to decide whether or not to go on strike ahead of the Christmas and Boxing Day shopping rush. On Dec. 21 and 22, workers of the Kamloops’ Sephora, the only unionized outlet in North America, will hold a strike vote, according to a media release from the United Food and Commercial Workers union Local 1518. The union has been negotiating with Sephora for more than a year as they seek wage increases, better flexibility in scheduling, assurances for health benefits and store bonuses. “It's the workers that help make this company profitable by creating a top-notch customer experience at Sephora all year round, and even more through the holidays," union local president Kim Novak said in the release. "We want to see their hard work recognized by Sephora and that comes in the form of better wages and improved working conditions. That is why our members in Kamloops are taking a strike vote. After a year of negotiations, our members are ready to fight for a deal that meets these very reasonable expectations.” Just last year, workers of the Kamloops store forced a policy change at Sephora Canada https://infotel.ca/newsitem/kamloops-sephora-employees-win-demand-for-paid-bag-checks-nationwide/it96816 imposed employees remained unpaid for up to half an hour while they awaited bag checks, this policy has now been rescinded in all Canadian Sephora locations. The Union Food and Commercial Workers Union represents more than 26,000 workers throughout community health, hospitality, retail, grocery, industrial and professional industries across the province.
